The District Council Affairs Department of the Government of Meghalaya, as an Administrative Department, began functioning since the inception of the State of Meghalaya in 1972.

The District Council Affairs Department is entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating the affairs of the 3(three) Autonomous District Councils constituted under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
